Faster, smarter Power Edit mode
The Power Edit mode for Write, Calc, and Show was developed using Java technology. What that means for you is that when you run the application Java applets (little applications written in Java) are launched from your browser. The first time this happens it may take some time. The good news is that now it takes even less time than it used to.
We expect users will save about 50~60% in downloading time with the new applets.
When you use Write, Calc, and Show the next time, they run just like any desktop application, since the applets are stored on your computer using the Java Virtual Machine developed by Sun.
These feature are working on Java version 1.4 and above. If you are using previous versions you may want to upgrade your Java software.
To check and see what version of Java you are currently running,
please visit here and click ‘Verify Installation.’
For the techies
Applet downloading time will be decreased dramatically because we recently applied Java’s brand new techniques, Pack200 & GZIP Compression.
With both techniques the compressed JAR files are transmitted over the network and the receiving application decompresses and restores them.
