Comparing Thinkfree online service for iPhone to iZoho continued

2008.06.27 18:27:49
119056

Is it possible to open PDF files in addition to office documents?
The answer is of course “Yes”. First Thinkfree online service for iPhone supports a file page to file enlargement.
Especially, the fonts which are unsupported in iPod Touch for the PDF file can be rendered flawlessly providing a clean and crisp view in our Thinkfree online service for iPhone

Lets verify if Microsoft Office 2007 file format can be supported.
The locations of fonts are slightly off but overall Microsoft Office 2007 files when opened in the Thinkfree online service for iPhone have retained most of its original font shapes. Let us not forget that Zoho doesn’t even support Microsoft Office 2007 PPTX file format.

What kinds of benefit are being provided to iPod users?

Frankly it is too cumbersome to log in from a mobile device like iPod Touch.

It neither provides the convenience which comes with a larger keyboard common to desktop PC nor helps in seeing mobile devices getting smaller and smaller into the palm of your hand.

For the obvious reason, it is all the more important to store the user name and password so there isn’t a redundant sign-in next time. Both Thinkfree’s online service for the iPhone and iZoho provide this function but there is a notable distinction. Let us explore the differences from the screens below.

iThinkFree Log-In Screen

iZoho log-In Screen

Can you see the difference?
Just by glancing at it will show that there is a difference in distance between the log in button and the ‘remember me’ check button.

In iZoho’s case, the ‘remember me’ button is located too close to the point where an unintentional log in could happen rather than to let its service to remember user id and passwords. Eventually this may lead to forcing users to type again.

However, Thinkfree’s online service for the iPhone ‘remember me’ button is situated in a reasonable distance to the log in button and this prevents or reduces the likelihood of user errors when due to tapping the wrong button by mistake.

In Summary:
The two contenders in online office space have both brought the letter “I” to the world of Apple mania. Through this review, we hope to provide a meaningful insight into making a convenient choice for the document conversion and user interface in iPod Touch.

ThinkFree Online Service for iPhone Vs iZoho

2008.06.26 18:25:34
105084

When opening Microsoft Office PowerPoint Presentation using Thinkfree online service for iPhone, users will immediately notice a difference in ways which PPT file opens vis-à-vis doc file.

================================================================

With special characteristics in PPT file, Thinkfree online service for iPhone provides a unique user interface to support go forward and backward functions to view previous or next slides as well as the display of title and total number of slides. With a simplified user experience in mind, Thinkfree online service for iPhone provides a competitive convenience over confusing features provided by iZoho.

================================================================

What’s more exciting is when touching the title of the slide.
As can be seen below, an up and down scroll feature similar to a dial allows users to choose and open a particular slide file by simply tapping onto that title from the list of titles. An up and down scroll feature in horizontal view provides additional buttons to navigate a slide left and right of the screen.

================================================================

Why iZoho user interface is confusing and cumbersome to use?In viewing PPT file, the first screen appears with small objects that are hard to identify at the bottom center of screen. (Shown inside of the rectangle in red). When enlarged with greater effort, it is then the objects came into view as recognizable arrow symbols, a function that allows moving from slide to slide. It is practically impossible to enlarge the object unless otherwise a user having very slim fingers.

A more detailed look at the new Thinkfree online service for iPhone

This information comes from another user who was awarded the iPod Touch from our recently held UCC contest. In this second series, he explores in detail what the iThinkFree service has to offer.

================================================================

To use the ThinkFree online service on the iPhone or iPod Touch requires uploading office documents to the ThinkFree site from any desktop PC. The membership and use of ThinkFree online is complimentary.

================================================================

ThinkFree Manager is a file synchronization and document management feature that makes easy viewing and editing possible.

pic2

================================================================

Once uploading the document is successful, iPhone or iPod Touch users can connect to ThinkFree online via the Thinkfree online service for iPhone to access any previously uploaded documents. The iPhone or iPod Touch users with the ThinkFree online account can use the same user name and password via the Thinkfree online service for iPhone screen as shown below.

pic3

================================================================

When logged on to the Thinkfree online service for iPhone, the display provides users with an intuitive and simple listing of user documents that are available online. To view documents only requires that users tap on the screen.

pic4

================================================================

This screen shows a document in open view. The Thinkfree online service for iPhone utilizes the HTML format to quickly open documents in the Safari environment. The current document shown below is in the Microsoft Office .doc format retaining file attributes as close to its original file properties as possible.

================================================================

To enlarge the view of open documents, it only requires the user follow the iPhone or iPod Touch user interface by using two fingers to stretch the screen.

================================================================

The screen and contents will follow iPhone or iPod Touch when viewed in landscape mode. In fact, the horizontal mode will provide viewing of contents in better quality. Because the Thinkfree online service for iPhone allows opening of multi screens, one of the added user benefits is to close the display content prior to moving back to the home screen at anytime. (For reference, iZoho only provides users with the ability to move directly from a single page and this can be very cumbersome.)

================================================================

iZoho requires their users to click on the back arrow to move to the home screen or move using a tab. But this makes it difficult to determine if the current display should be closed or not. The Thinkfree online service for iPhone user interface is designed differently to reduce a prone to user error which may result from the use of inflexible features similar to what iZoho provides.

ThinkFree Office iPhone, Ipod Touch review

2008.06.23 18:18:08
121866

 We had asked the winners of the UCC contest that we held to give us a brief review about their experience using ThinkFree Office on their Ipod Touch.

Here is what one of our winners had submitted to us.

A. “Logging in can be a little time consuming when trying to enter your userID and password using the small keyboard on the itouch. The ‘Remember me’ option helps, but if you login somewhere else, you have to type the information all over again. “

B. “Once I was logged in to my ThinkFree account, everything flowed nicely. The first thing you see is all your list of files and folders.”

C. “Once you click on a document, it opens up on a 2nd screen which allows you to navigate back to your menu to see your other documents. Opening several documents displays each document as a smaller size allowing you to get a glimpse of each file.”
